A complete count of the number of residents in Providence helps us receive more population allocation money from sales tax. It also affects our representation in the State House of Representatives.
Census data is also used to direct hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding for a variety of programs, including programs for hospitals, fire departments, school lunch programs, etc. It is also used in planning for highways and transit.
